Manuscripts

Submit your manuscript

We read submissions once a year, from April 1, 2026 to June 15, 2026, and we answer every one of them: including when the answer is no.

Submissions are read by two people in the editorial team, not by outside readers: whoever reads is whoever decides, and whoever decides is whoever writes back. That is why the timings are the ones set out below, and not a week.

We publish twelve titles a year. That means we say no to almost everything we read, and that a no is not a verdict on your book: it is the measure of what we can genuinely look after, with the editing, the printing and the bookshops a book deserves.

If your manuscript interests us we write to you early and ask for the full text. That is where the conversation starts — the structure, the cuts, the time it will take — and nothing is signed before it.

How it works

From your submission to our answer

Three steps, the same for everyone: no submission jumps the queue, and none needs an introduction.

  1. You send the submission

You fill in the form below: who you are, the work, a synopsis and the file of the manuscript or of an extract.

  2. Two of us read it

When the window closes, every submission goes to two readers in the editorial team. The ones that convince us go to a second reading, and for that we ask you for the full text.

  3. We answer

Within eight weeks of the window closing you receive a written answer, yes or no. Nobody is left waiting on silence.

Outside the window the form stays open: your submission joins the queue for the next opening, so it is not lost, but it is not read any earlier.

Guidelines

What we look for, what we need

Three series, each with a precise idea of what a book is. If yours fits none of the three, we are probably not the right house — and saying so here saves you a wait.

Fiction
Novels and short stories in Italian. First books are welcome: half the catalogue is made of debuts.
Non-fiction
Non-fiction with an argument and a voice, written for readers outside the field. We do not publish academic theses as they are.
Poetry
Collections already put in order, not single poems. Two titles a year: the smallest series, and the hardest.

What to send

  • A half-page synopsis with the whole plot, ending included: not the blurb.
  • The title, even a provisional one, and the genre you see the book in.
  • Two lines about you, and about what you have written before, if you have.
  • The manuscript or an extract as an attachment, in formats that open on any desk.

What we do not read

  • Books already published, self-published ones included, unless agreed beforehand.
  • Manuscripts in any language other than Italian: we have nobody to read them.
  • Master's and doctoral theses not rewritten as books.
  • Children's books, manuals and guides: they are not our trade.

The form

Send your submission

Three groups of fields, and the synopsis is the only one that takes time. If you would rather use e-mail, the submissions address is proposte@scenariedizioni.it.

All fields are required.

Who is writing

Two fields. The address is the one we reply to, so do check it.

The work

Title, genre and a length even if approximate: they tell us what kind of book we are talking about.

A provisional one is fine: titles change along the way.

A rough number, in pages or in characters.

The text

The part we read first. Take the time you need: what you write stays in the fields until you send it.

At least 80 characters, with the whole plot: ending included.

Two or three lines, at most 600 characters.

.pdf · .doc · .docx · .odt · .rtf · up to 8 MB. The whole manuscript or the extract you prefer.
